Welcome to my blog! I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share with you my background and vision behind this blog. My name is Elise Nechelput. I am from the United Kingdom, however was brought up as a third culture kid, living in Mexico, the USA, Singapore, China, Japan, and finally in London, where I currently reside. I twenty-three years old and I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Media, Communications, and Critical Practice at the University of the Arts in London.
As a teenager, I took to producing my films and photographs highlighting my childhood experiences and relationships with my family, friends, and my place within the culture around me. I experimented with various means of production such as digital, Polaroid, and instant cameras, camcorders and action based cameras, and gained professional knowledge through utilising professional equipment through media and film classes. As a hobby, I also pursued fashion styling, particularly in my late teenage years, as a means to express myself and build confidence. Living in the United Kingdom and then Japan in my high school years allowed me to experiment with cross cultural trends and international brands, and solidify my personal style.
These experiences led me to returning to the UK to study Media and Communications at Goldsmiths University. It was there that I found my place in society advocating for and about about social reform, feminism, racial and LGBTQIA+ justice. The concept of the female gaze, which I learned about in one of my film lectures, allowed me to marry these interests of filmmaking, fashion, and advocacy together specifically in terms of creative style and direction.
Pursuing the Masters is the next step in my dream to enter a career in creative production…
